Effects of 2 - Chloroethylphosphonic Acid on Red Ripening of Korean Hot Pepper Fruits

Abstract
Varied levels of Ethrel (2-chloroethylphosphonic acid), 0, 250, 500, and 1000 ppm, were applied to Korean native hot pepper plants grown under natural field conditions in the middle of August for the first test and in the last part of September for the second test. The latter test was considered valuable to harvest red-ripen fruits prier to the first frost attack in this area. Foliar applications of Ethrel was thus practiced to see the effect on red ripening of the pepper fruits.
Nearly 70% of the total fruits sprayed observed to be red colored in 15 days, while plants without spray showed only 20% to be red at this time. The more the Ethrel concentration and the time elapsed after spray, the mire the red coloration of fruits there was.
Applicable level and time of the fruit harvesting are assumed to be properly adjusted by ones practical and economical standpoints.
